UNDER the theme of “SURVIVAL BY DESIGN: from Darwinism to …,” the 8th Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair (SZIDF) is slated to be held in Hall 2 of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from Monday to Wednesday.

Apart from the three-day exhibition, more than 30 activities will be held concurrently, bringing together over 300 innovative design companies from home and abroad to explore the current industrial design opportunities in Shenzhen.

More than 6,700 design works from Japan, South Korea, the United States, Germany, Turkey, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, and China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will be displayed at the three-day exhibition.

Among the domestic exhibitors, BGI’s Huo-yan Laboratory, Huawei’s UCD Center and Miniso will attend this year’s SZIDF for the first time.

The fair, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, will include seven exhibition areas covering industrial design, strategic research, visual interaction, brand design, space experience, digital design and service design.

For the very first time, SZIDF will gather global design resources in the form of online virtual exhibition and on-site exhibition, making full use of up-to-date technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality.

Curated by prestigious British designer Michael Young, this year’s SZIDF aims to call on designers to examine the unique value of design from a new perspective and trigger design transformation through dialogues, cooperation and innovation.

Talk Tank, jointly initiated by SZIDF and Michael Young, is a new activity format allowing rising stars in the design and innovation field to speak about their unique thoughts and ideas, said the organizers.

Additionally, the Industrial Culture Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will unveil the China Design Industry Development Report (2020) at the launch ceremony of the fair Monday.

The fair is hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, undertaken by the Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association, and co-organized by the China Industrial Design Association and the Industrial Design Branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
