THE 2020 Shenzhen Biotech Industry Leaders Summit is scheduled to be held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District on Nov. 18.

Preparations for the event are in full swing, according to a press conference held by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office yesterday.

Focusing on biomedical technology and safety, this year’s summit will feature keynote speeches, a high-end dialogue, and professional forums, aiming to provide a high-level platform for exchanges in the biomedical field in China.

Zhang Boli, winner of the national honorary title, “the People’s Hero,” and an academic of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Shen Weixing, vice president of China Health Law Society and dean of Tsinghua University Law School, will deliver keynote speeches at the summit.

Under the theme of “The Next Five Years of Biotechnology in Shenzhen,” the high-end dialogue will bring together academics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, top experts and scholars in the industry, and entrepreneurs to provide suggestions for Shenzhen to become a global biotechnology innovation highland and the cradle of biological industry development.

The summit will involve six professional forums, covering such fields as biotechnology and innovative drugs, modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, high-end medical devices, pharmaceutical policies and regulations, pharmaceutical investment and financing, and biotech + IT, with an overall participation of about 400 people, according to the press conference.

Zeng Jianpeng, deputy director of the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission, disclosed that Shenzhen will release a series of major public service platforms for the biomedical industry at the summit.

The platforms cover the R&D and production of pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

The city will also further explore the construction of an efficient open sharing mechanism and a sound service system, so that all public service platforms can be used in practice and truly empower the innovation and development of the biomedical industry in Shenzhen.

The biomedical industry is one of the strategic emerging industries in Shenzhen. In 2019, the added value of the city’s biomedical industry reached 33.78 billion yuan (US$5.05 billion), witnessing an annual growth of 13.3 percent.

At present, Shenzhen has set up more than 300 innovative platforms in the field of biomedicine, and is home to a number of leading enterprises such as Mindray, Salubris and Chipscreen.
