Valet parking service popular near city’s major hospitals
    2020-11-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

VALET parking services have been gaining traction near major hospitals in Shenzhen recently, as some citizens don’t have time to line up for parking or they are in a hurry to see a doctor, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

On Oct. 27, as the reporter with the Daily entered the driveway near Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital, a man in a light blue vest approached the reporter, asking the latter whether he needed valet parking service.

Meanwhile, in a line of vehicles running about 500 meters long, there were more than 10 men wearing the same vest asking other drivers the same question.

The man told the reporter that he is a staffer of a company that specializes in valet parking business. The parking service costs 49 yuan (US$7.29) and includes two-hour free parking.

The car owner will get confirmation after the car has been parked.

When the car owner has finished running errands, he/she will be picked up after he or she informs the driver by phone or WeChat.

In the vicinity of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, a man surnamed Xie, who provides valet parking service, told the reporter that there are about 50 or 60 people who provide the same service near the hospital.

Xie said he can have at least four or five customers a day, and with good luck, he can serve more than 10 customers in a day. According to Xie, valet parking is an emerging business which is convenient for patients to see a doctor.

The reporter visited the parking lots of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital and Shenzhen People’s Hospital, and found that in addition to some special parking spaces for medical staff and emergency vehicles, most of the parking spaces are open to the public.

According to a security guard working in one of the hospitals, the hospital’s parking spaces can fully meet the demands of the public and it only takes 20 to 30 minutes to wait during busy times. The vehicles entering and leaving the hospital are relatively slow, rather than there being insufficient parking spaces.

Citizens have expressed different views in terms of valet parking service near hospitals, according to the Daily.

Some think that the parking service is an irony of the supporting facilities of hospitals, while others believe that valet parking is an inevitable trend of social development and a convenient service.

Some citizens believe that valet parking services may extend rapidly to all areas of society in the future, so the valet parking industry needs to be standardized and regulated.
