‘Emily in Paris’ renewed for Season 2
    2020-11-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

EMILY COOPER is staying in Paris for a little while longer. Netflix has renewed its wildly popular romantic comedy series “Emily in Paris” for a second season.

Since its Oct. 2 debut, “Emily in Paris” has been a breakout word-of-mouth hit for the streamer. While Netflix does not release traditional viewership data, measurement company Nielsen said subscribers watched more than 676 million minutes of the series within its first week of release. The series has been a mixed bag with viewers and critics alike, drawing a 64 percent and 60 percent rating, respectively.

“Emily in Paris” follows Emily (Lily Collins), an ambitious marketing executive from the United States who unexpectedly lands a job in Paris when her company acquires a French luxury marketing company. She is tasked with revamping their social media strategy, and embarks on a new life in Paris filled with adventures and challenges, as she juggles winning over her colleagues, making friends, and navigating new romances. The series was shot entirely in France.

The French press, meanwhile, was not particularly kind to the series, with local critics blasting the show for perpetuating stereotypes of French people, glorifying an unrealistic version of Paris and absurdist plotlines.

“The show is a love letter to Paris through the eyes of this American girl who has never been there,” said series creator Darren Star who is also behind “Sex and the City” and “Younger.” “The first thing she is seeing is the clichés because it’s from her point of view. I’m not sorry for looking at Paris through a glamorous lens. It’s a beautiful city, and I wanted to do a show that celebrated that part of Paris.”
