Museum

IT took eight years and 13,000 donors including the likes of Barbra Streisand and Steven Spielberg, but the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has reached and exceeded its pre-fundraising goal. Academy Museum director and president Bill Kramer said Friday that the new museum has raised US$388 million.

The largest single contribution came from Haim and Cheryl Saban, who gave US$50 million. The fundraising campaign was chaired by Walt Disney Co. executive chairman Bob Iger and co-chaired by Annette Bening and Tom Hanks. Located in Los Angeles at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, the Academy Museum is set to open April 30, five days after the 93rd Academy Awards. An inaugural exhibit will celebrate the works of the legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.

‘The Guilty’

NETFLIX has assembled an A-list ensemble for the Antoine Fuqua-directed thriller “The Guilty.”

Peter Sarsgaard, Riley Keough, Paul Dano, and Ethan Hawke are joining the cast along with “High Fidelity” star Da’Vine Joy Randolph, “Umbrella Academy” actor David Castaneda and “Honey Boy” actor Byron Bowers.

Jake Gyllenhaal will lead, playing the 911 call operator Joe Bayler, as he tries to save a caller in grave danger-but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out. The film takes place over the course of a single morning.

“True Detective” creative Nic Pizzolatto will pen the movie.

‘The Suicide Squad’

DIRECTOR James Gunn confirmed Saturday that Sylvester Stallone has joined the cast of “The Suicide Squad.”

“The Suicide Squad” is a follow-up to the 2016 film directed by David Ayer, with Margot Robbie, Will Smith And Jared Leto. Robbie reprises her role in the new film, acting alongside Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman and Taika Waititi.

Gunn wrote the screenplay based on the comic book by John Ostrander. The movie is set to release into theaters Aug. 6, 2021.(SD-Agencies)
