5 designs of conservatory shortlisted
    2020-12-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FIVE entries for the design of the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music, one of 10 new cultural facilities to be built in the city, have been shortlisted by a panel headed by Zhuang Weimin, head of Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University who is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The final design of the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music will be created based on the final five entries.

Located inside the International University Park of Shenzhen, Longgang District, the conservatory covers 73,800 square meters and is budgeted at 1.75 billion yuan (US$266 million).

Drawing on the successful experience of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and the advanced operating philosophy of first-class institutions at home and abroad, the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music will be built into an international, innovative and world-class higher education institute for music and arts.

It will fill the gap of Shenzhen’s higher education in music and arts, promote the exchange of cultural resources and talented people in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and cultivate talented music and art professionals for Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area and the country.

The conservatory will begin enrollment in the year 2021.

A wide range of programs will be offered to cover the needs of students who aspire to further their art studies.

For the undergraduate programs, the conservatory will set up courses for music performance, musicology, composition and dances. Students for graduate studies will have additional courses like music technology, arts management, music therapy and music sociology. (Han Ximin)
