THE 10 lines operated by the Shenzhen Metro Group handled about 5.85 million trips a day Thursday, up 13 percent over the same day last year, while daily use of QR codes for rides hit 2.28 million.

A report released by the Shenzhen Metro Group showed that the passenger throughput in 2020 reached 1.4 billion and the service helped reduce 32,000 tons of carbon emissions.

For traffic in October, the Metro service made up 51.6 percent of the public transportation.

The city’s Metro network increased by 107 kilometers with six new lines (sections) put into operation this year. Total length has reached a milestone of more than 400 kilometers.

In 2020, a total of 17 routes and six rail projects were developed. They include 235 kilometers of Metro lines and 340 kilometers of railways.

Line 5 is the busiest route with 779,000 trips handled each day. It is followed by Line 1 and Line 3, which handle 768,300 trips and 605,400 trips a day.

Chegongmiao Station, the hub where four lines meet, is the busiest station with 210,000 passenger trips handled a day during workdays and 150,000 passenger trips handled a day on weekends.

The record for the station was 223,800 passenger trips on Nov. 27.
