Warner Bros. dates three new features
    2020-12-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WARNER Bros. has dated three upcoming features for 2023, including the “Mad Max: Fury Road” spinoff “Furiosa” and “The Color Purple” musical.

George Miller will write and direct the prequel movie “Furiosa,” which is set for June 23, 2023.

Anya Taylor-Joy will star in the titular role, which was portrayed by Charlize Theron in the 2015 blockbuster, along with Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Miller and Doug Mitchell will produce.

The feature adaptation of the musical “The Color Purple” will hit theaters Dec. 20, 2023.

The movie is based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, itself based on the Alice Walker novel. Blitz Bazawule, the helmer behind Beyonce’s “Black Is King,” will direct with Oprah Winfrey producing under her Harpo Films banner, Steven Spielberg under Amblin Entertainment, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones.

The live-action animation hybrid “Coyote vs. Acme,” based on the classic Looney Toons animated character, has been dated for July 21, 2023. The project from the Warner Animation Group will be directed by Dave Green from a screenplay by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, Jon Silberman, Josh Silberman and Samy Burch. Also based on the fictional New Yorker magazine article “Coyote v. Acme,” the movie will be produced by Chris DeFaria and James Gunn will produce.

Warner Bros’ parent company Warner Media announced earlier that the studio’s entire 2021 slate will be released day-and-date in theaters and on HBO Max, domestically. With the announcement of 2023 theatrical films, made by Warner Bros picture group chairman Toby Emmerich, the studio notes the films are all set for a worldwide theatrical release.(SD-Agencies)
