Tourism plan rolled out for Greater Bay Area

CHINA has recently rolled out a comprehensive development plan on the cultural and tourism development for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Wednesday.

The country will build the Greater Bay Area into a habitable, entrepreneur-friendly area and a tourist destination with a flourishing cultural industry. The plan projected that by the year 2035, the area’s tourism and cultural sectors will realize high-quality development and it will boast greater cultural soft power and higher tourism competitiveness.

Services activity growth slows in December

ACTIVITY in China’s services sector expanded at a slower but still strong pace in December, official data showed Thursday, supported by pent-up demand as the recovery from the coronavirus gathered pace.

The official non-manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 55.7 in December from 56.4 in November, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed. The 50-point mark separates growth from contraction on a monthly basis. Though slower than manufacturing, China’s services sector, which includes many smaller and private companies, has posted solid growth thanks to strong domestic demand.

Firms fined for misreported prices, sales

CHINA’S market regulator said Wednesday it has fined JD.com Inc., Alibaba’s Tmall and Vipshop 500,000 yuan (US$76,657) each for irregular pricing.

The State Administration of Market Regulation said in a social media post that it had taken the decision after it received consumer complaints over the companies’ pricing strategies related to Nov. 11 shopping events.

Copyright industry’s added value up over 10%

THE added value of China’s copyright industry reached 7.32 trillion yuan (US$1.12 trillion) in 2019, registering a year-on-year increase of more than 10 percent, according to the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.

From 2016 to 2019, the added value of the copyright industry has grown from 5.46 trillion yuan to 7.32 trillion yuan, with an increase of 34 percent, showed a report recently issued by the academy.
