Girl now a published author after writing a novel during lockdown
    2021-01-04  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A BRITISH girl has become one of the world’s youngest published authors after she wrote a novel during lockdown which is now for sale in Waterstones.

Ellah Louise Ramsey, 9, fell in love with writing when she met her favorite author Frank English after he gave a talk at her school assembly.

The schoolgirl wrote to English — who has written 23 books — on Facebook and sent him the first few chapters of her novel “The Magic Whistle and the Tiny Bag of Wishes.”

The 75-year-old loved the story so much he asked if he could co-author it with her, and get it published.

Five months later her book is now stocked for sale in Waterstones and on Amazon, selling hundreds of copies already.

Ramsey, from Grangetown, North Yorkshire, said: “I feel really proud of the book and I take really good care of it.”

Former teacher and childrens’ author English visited Ramsey’s school in March 2017 to give an assembly for World Book Day.

Ramsey was inspired to start jotting down ideas for what would become her first novel on a laptop she got from Santa.

She started working on “The Magic Whistle and the Tiny Bag of Wishes” — a story about Logan, who is bullied at school.

During lockdown, she saw an advert on TV, which encouraged people to do something positive during their time at home.

She messaged English asking if he remembered her, and if he’d like to read the first three chapters of her book, in May.

Much to her surprise he did, and she sent him the story.

The girl and the professional author then spent the next three months emailing back and forth with chapters and edits until the first draft was ready in August.

Publishers printed and released the paperback worldwide Oct. 8 and Nov. 10 in hardback. (SD-Agencies)
