THE Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has endorsed its top leader Kim Jong Un as the general secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea at its 8th party congress, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported yesterday. The election took place at the sixth-day session of the ongoing party congress in Pyongyang on Sunday, it said. The congress decided to change the party’s “Executive Policy Council into Secretariat.” The decision would lead to party officials to relinquish the current titles such as chairman and vice chairman and start using old titles such as secretary or vice secretary. Meanwhile, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said yesterday that his government can hold dialogue with the DPRK anytime, anywhere and even in a contactless way. Moon said the main power of the Korean Peninsula peace process is dialogue, coexistence and cooperation, hoping to open a way for peace and coexistence in the process of addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
