SZ workers ‘satisfied’ with mental health

ALTHOUGH white-collar workers in Shenzhen have shown less job satisfaction in the eventful year of 2020, their satisfaction with mental health and family ties has increased significantly, according to a report released by Chinese online recruitment platform zhaopin.com Monday, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

According to the survey data, the job satisfaction index of Shenzhen white-collars workers in 2020 is 2.31, ranking 18th in the national white-collar job satisfaction index.

Specifically, Shenzhen white-collar workers are most satisfied with interpersonal relationship, with a satisfaction index of 2.74, followed by learning and training at 2.66, salary and perks at work 1.93, and lastly promotion.

In terms of pay raise, data show that 45.2 percent of the city’s white-collar workers have had their salary increased in 2020, but the increase is lower than that in the same period of the previous year.

On the whole, Shenzhen white-collar workers’ satisfaction with their life in 2020 is at a moderate level, as per the report.

Shenzhen white-collar workers are most satisfied with their mental health, with a satisfaction index of 3.21, followed by the company of family members scored at 2.45 and health conditions at 2.4.

In view of health problems, 39.7 percent of the city’s white-collar workers said they suffered from insomnia, while cervical and lumbar pain reached 35.6 percent and hair loss at 30.6 percent were also common, and 29.2 percent of them showed fatigue on a daily basis.

In 2020, white-collar workers in Shenzhen have witnessed an increase in savings on average.

Data show that 21 percent of Shenzhen white-collar workers have deposits of more than 50,000 yuan (US$7,705), which is higher than that of the previous year, while the proportion of white-collar workers in debt has narrowed slightly.

When asked about their career plans for 2021, 34.2 percent of Shenzhen white-collar workers said they will pursue self-improvement; 22.8 percent prefer new opportunities and want to engage in promising industries and enterprises; and 11.9 percent expect some breakthroughs, promotions and pay raises.
