TSUTAYA Books, the largest bookstore chain in Japan, will open a brick-and-mortar branch in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported. The bookstore has recently reached a cooperation agreement with Zhongzhou and confirmed the settlement of its first branch in southeastern China. Tsutaya Bookstore is expected to open in 2022 in C Future City, a shopping center under construction in Futian District. Lyu Hua, a representative of C Future City, believes that Tsutaya Bookstore will bring Shenzhen people a brand-new choice and experience. “Shenzhen has a huge number of readers, we’d love to bring a favorable environment for the readers in the city,” Lyu said. With Tsutaya’s flagship store in Daikanyama in Tokyo named one of the 20 most beautiful bookstores in the world by culture website Flavorwire, Tsutaya will compete with many renowned Chinese brick-and-mortar bookshops such as CITIC Books and Sisyphe Bookstore. Tsutaya now runs more than 1,400 bookstores in Japan and has previously planned branches opening in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu. (SD-Xinhua) |
