People’s Arcade 众行拱廊

Visitors who plan to view exhibitions at the Sea World Culture and Art Center are encouraged to check out a pink arcade outside the center. Called the People’s Arcade, it is a retractable arcade that can be expanded over the length of a street section, linking disconnected public space and creating space for shelter and events.

Designed by People’s Architecture Office, the arcade was displayed at the Suzhou Design Week last year. The mobile arcade provides a comfortable walking environment through colorful sun and rain shading arches. The arched canopies allude to the curved walkways of Suzhou’s famous classical gardens, which through their small and intricate space design have a big impact on the garden experience.
