Vehicles leaving for holiday drop
    2021-02-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE number of vehicles leaving the city for the Spring Festival holiday has plunged, police data showed.

Between Jan. 15 and Sunday, or Dec. 3-26 on the Chinese lunar calendar, the number has dropped by 49 percent over the same period last year on the lunar calendar.

Police expect that the road traffic in the city will be busy as many have chosen to stay in the city for the holiday.

Police have worked out tailor-made plans based on the actual situation at parks, business centers and tourist attractions to ensure smooth traffic.

The supermarkets and agricultural produce markets have seen the congestion of vehicles over the weekend as crowds of residents have prepared for the upcoming Spring Festival.

In the past week, police statistics showed vehicles on the roads have increased by 30 percent over the same period last year on the lunar calendar.

For vehicles headed to Lianhua Hill Park, police will designate one lane on the north of Hongli Road as temporary parking.

Police will clear away cars that illegally and randomly park along the roadside surrounding Shenzhen Bay Park.

The entrances to the parking lots at Guangqiao Road and Chalin Road will be closed when the parking lot of Hongqiao Park in Guangming District is full. Police will guide vehicles to park at Ketai Road and Chalin Road temporarily.

Police expect that short-trip tours within Guangdong Province will boom during the Spring Festival holiday, and expressways will be jammed Tuesday and Wednesday and on the last two days of the holiday, Feb. 16 and 17.

Between Sunday (Feb. 7) and Feb. 28, Shenzhen has lifted bans on nonlocally registered vehicles operating in Shenzhen during rush hours. The ban will be imposed again starting from March 1.

Police statistics showed the number of the vehicles running on the roads during morning rush hours were 590,000, a decline of 32.95 percent compared to that before the Spring Festival travel rush which started Jan. 28. The number of vehicles on the roads during evening rush hours also dropped by 11.25 percent to 710,000.
