Han Ximin ximhan@126.com SHENZHEN traffic police seized a total of 2,194 e-bikes for violations Tuesday, the first day of a two-month-long action to curb traffic accidents. A total of 151 e-bikes were impounded for having used fake or duplicated license plates. The inspections were conducted around lunch and supper time periods, the rush hours for food deliveries. Most violators were going against red lights, using motorist lanes or driving against directions. some food delivery and courier riders were not wearing helmets. Police statistics showed that, among the fatalities involving e-bikes, most of the victims, the drivers and riders, failed to wear masks. Compared to the traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries of the same period in 2019, the numbers have dropped so far this year, despite some increased traffic fatalities in Nanshan and Longhua districts. So far this year, six people in Nanshan and four people in Longhua were killed, while Bao’an and Longgang districts account for the most accidents. Police said violations such as illegally using motorist lanes by e-bike drivers, DUI, sudden road crossing by pedestrians and going against red lights are major causes for traffic accidents. |
