Extended Metro line to link SZ, GZ
    2021-02-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Guangzhou Metro Line 22 will be extended to Dongguan and Shenzhen, according to a news conference on transportation infrastructure construction by Guangzhou government Wednesday, on the eve of the second anniversary of the issuance of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Line 22 intercity rail, with a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour, will be connected to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Terminal 3 and is also planned to connect with Shajing Station of Line 18 in Shenzhen.

The construction of Line 22 in Guangzhou is going smoothly. By the end of January, half of the civil engineering work had been completed and the initial 18.2-km section from Panyu Square to Chentougang is scheduled to open before the end of the year.

Passengers in downtown Guangzhou can reach Nansha District in southern Guangzhou within 20 minutes, Jiang Li, deputy chief with Guangzhou Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, said at the news conference.

The development plan (2018-2035) of Dongguan showed Line 22 will pass Binhaiwan Station in Dongguan and be further extended to Shajing in Shenzhen. Through Line 18, passengers can reach Guangmingcheng High-speed Rail Station. The station will be an important transportation hub in northwestern Shenzhen that integrates Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Rail, Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail, Shenzhen-Dongguan Intercity Rail, the spur line of Line 6 and Lines 13 and 18.

The line runs in the direction of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor by linking Nansha Science City, Dongguan Binhaiwan New Area and Shenzhen Guangming Science and Technology Town.

Separately, sources from Shenzhen Metro Group said the feasibility and environmental report for Phase II of the Line 6 spur line had been recently approved by the city’s planning and environment authorities.

The spur line runs 4.9 kilometers with three stations, including Guangming and Guangmingcheng stations. The Line 6 spur line is designed to be connected with Metro Line 1 in Dongguan and link up with Shenzhen Line 6 at Guangming Station. (Han Ximin)
