Photos of the seventh Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award are on display at the “Time Particle” exhibition at the Yuezhong Museum of Historical Images. Born in a village in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, Hou (1950-2003) was a worker and later a railway company official. He held his first photo exhibition in 1982. His black-and-white photos feature farming and migrant workers, recording social changes in modern China. The biannual Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award, launched in 2007, was funded by Hou’s photo sales revenue. The event aims to promote documentary photography in China and encourage photographers to focus on contemporary social life in China.
