More than 130 Chinese freehand-style oil paintings are on display at Red Cube in Longgang District. Entry is free. Freehand is a distinct Chinese painting style commonly seen in ink and watercolor paintings. This style focuses on the imagery and charm of a painting, regardless of subjects and brush strokes. Since the 19th century when the practice of Western oil painting began to spread in China, domestic artists have for generations sought to incorporate the freehand style into their creation of oil works, adapting the Western art form to a Chinese aesthetic context.
