Zeng Hao’s oil paintings on display
    2021-03-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Zeng Hao is exhibiting his oil paintings at the “Under the Bubble” exhibition in Longgang.

“Zeng is sensitive to the times and concerned about current affairs. Therefore, his works often appear as sociological narratives. For example, his paintings on bubbles are related to the global financial crisis in 2008,” said curator Guo Yun.

Zeng has studied from artist Zhang Xiaogang whose works have a heavy historical outlook, focus on individuals in a specific era and reflect the value and significance of individuals’ existence. “Although Zeng’s works have traces of historical narrative, they are more inclined to criticize the present. Therefore, urban humanities and social landscapes are often used as carriers in his works as a way to focus on the phenomena of ‘post-colonial,’ ‘globalization’ and ‘consumption trends’ in modern history. The bubbles and the vague and even illegible landscapes in his works are precisely his doubts about this gorgeous, fragile and uncertain reality. In terms of artistic language, Zeng uses a surreal approach to depict the illusions in the real world, which is full of desire,” Guo added.
