OFFICIALS of Guangming District briefed media, enterprise representatives and expats living and working there on the achievements and implementation plan of Guangming’s high-quality development and gorgeous cityscape at the district’s public service platform Wednesday.

On the same occasion, Liu Sheng, Party chief of Guangming District, Liu Daling, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangming District Committee, together with other officials, unveiled the Press Conference Hall of “Voice of Science City.”

Liu Yunhong, head of the Science, Technology and Innovation Bureau of Guangming District, introduced the district’s implementation plan on comprehensively promoting high-quality economic and social development, accelerating Shenzhen northern center’s creation of a gorgeous cityscape, and expediting the upgrade of the regional science and technology innovation capacity.

As a start-up area of the comprehensive national science center in the Greater Bay Area, Guangming Science City serves the national strategy of scientific and technological independence and self-improvement, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the building of Shenzhen into a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

By 2025, Guangming District will realize great achievements in important indicators of science and technology innovation compared with that at the end of 2020. It will be home to one national laboratory, three provincial laboratories and 10 new R&D institutions. It will launch or get involved in one international science program. Its R&D investment will reach over 7 percent of its GDP.

According to Li Juntao, vice head of the district’s urban administration, since the district’s establishment in 2018, it has newly built 113 parks, bringing the total number of parks in the district to 260, and has improved the landscape of 117 roads, bringing the total to 172.

This year, the district will focus on improving the cityscape of six areas with a total of 33 projects. The six areas are Hongqiao Park area, Time Valley area, the large-scale scientific facility cluster of Science City, Guangming International Auto City area, Kenong Road and Fenghuang area and Guangming South Gate area.

By 2023, the district’s high-quality and gorgeous cityscape framework will take shape with over 15 newly built parks and improved cityscapes of 10 areas and 60 roads.

After listening to the introduction, Daniel Otero with Shenzhen Guangming Foreign Languages School showed great interest and asked more about the district’s cityscape and high-quality development.

“This year we will work together with different departments including planning, transportation, culture and tourism and water authorities to connect the green areas like parks, greenways and slow traffic system together. In places where transport is not very convenient, we will build corridors in the air to connect them. Citizens will be able to access and experience the whole cityscape,” answered Li.

Li added that, after five years’ effort, with every corner and every detail well built and taken care of, Guangming will become a world-class science city and Shenzhen’s northern center with unique competitiveness.
