A TOTAL of 236 Shenzhen enterprises have been chosen into top 500 brands of publicly listed companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), ranking first among GBA cities, according to a report released by Shenzhen News Media Think Tank.

Shenzhen is followed by Guangzhou (102), Hong Kong (67), Dongguan (25) Foshan (21) and Zhuhai (18) in the ranking.

Among the 500 enterprises, 81 percent of them settle in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Among the top 10, six enterprises are in Shenzhen.

Of the top 500 GBA enterprises, 251 of them are engaged in the manufacturing and 42 enterprises come from information transmission, software and IT services sectors. Netease, BYD, Vanke, Country Garden and China Merchants Bank ranked in the top five.

The research team compared the industries in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The result showed that 60 Shenzhen enterprises are engaged in hardware manufacturing, 21 are involved in property development and 31 are in the Internet sector. In contrast, no Hong Kong enterprises entered the ranking for computer hardware and the Internet.

Hong Kong enterprises took dominant positions in the property development, food and beverage, medicine and medical treatment sectors. Of the top 100 property developers, 47 are headquartered in Hong Kong. Among 47 enterprises listed in the top 500 for food and beverage, 35 were Hong Kong companies, followed by Guangzhou with 12 such businesses.

In medicine and medical treatment, 19 Hong Kong enterprises entered the top 50.
