Driver detained for accident while drowsy from pills
    2021-04-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A DRIVER surnamed Wu, driving under the influence of cold pills, was criminally detained by police and charged with jeopardizing public safety.

According to a notice from the police authority Monday, a six-vehicle pileup on Yanlong Boulevard in Longgang District happened March 28 that caused a road facility damage and disrupted traffic for more than two hours.

Investigations showed that Wu took two pills for his cold before driving a truck from Longhua District to Huizhou City. Along the way, Wu felt drowsy and when the truck arrived at the intersection of Yanlong Boulevard and Longling Road South in Longgang District, Wu fell asleep and the truck hit other vehicles waiting for the traffic light. The accident caused five injuries and damages worth 300,000 yuan (US$46,080).

During the initial investigation, Wu lied that the brake failed. He later admitted it was caused by pills.
