FIVE Shenzhen Party delegates gathered for a media interview to exchange views and perspectives on the topic “Shenzhen’s New Mission in the New Era” at the Wuzhou Guest House in Futian District on Tuesday, when the seventh Shenzhen Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened.

As a special economic zone and an innovation powerhouse, Shenzhen has ushered in a new period of strategic development opportunity following the rollout of a series of national strategies.

Shenzhen University (SZU) president Li Qingquan said the city’s need for higher education, innovative talents and new-type think tanks is now more urgent than ever.

As a comprehensive university with the longest history, the largest scale and the most complete disciplines in Shenzhen, SZU has a duty to help the city realize its new historical mission, according to Li.

“SZU is working out its own five-year plan. We strive to reach new heights in academic excellence and contribute our fair share to higher education development in Shenzhen and China,” said Li.

Chen Shaolei, director of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era Research Center of Party School of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the  CPC, urged the city to form a new pattern of comprehensively deepening reform and opening up, and promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

“Shenzhen should make use of its practices and fruitful results from the construction of the pilot demonstration area to tell the world that the CPC is a capable leader, Marxism works and socialism with Chinese characteristics is good for China,” said Chen.

Sheng Liyuan with the PKU-HKUST Shenzhen-Hong Kong Institution voiced his opinions on how Shenzhen and Hong Kong can forge deeper ties.

He suggested Shenzhen continuously deepen the academic, financial and industrial exchanges with Hong Kong by attracting the SAR’s innovative resources.

The year 2021 is called the start of a “golden decade” for Qianhai and its prospect is highly anticipated.

“Qianhai will continue to explore new models of serving the real economy and make unique contributions to the GBA,” said Dong Feng, general manager of Shenzhen Qianhai Mercantile Exchange Co. Ltd.

In terms of urban governance, Li Qun, head of the emergency command center in Bantian Subdistrict in Longgang District, said the adoption of information technology is the “magic code” behind the subdistrict’s refined management.

In recent years, the incidence of emergencies has been declining every year as a result of its smart management.
