City wins praise for water treatment, industrial growth

SHENZHEN has been praised and awarded by the State Council for implementing the Central Government’s major policies and making solid progress in six work items.

According to a circular issued by the State Council on Friday, the city was praised for promoting river chief mechanism protecting the ecological environment, deepening business registration and monitoring reforms, issuance of corporate bonds, promoting employment, industrial growth and transformation and shanty town renovations.

The cities that were praised for implementing river chief mechanism to protect ecology each will be given a 20 million yuan (US$3.09 million) reward. The fund will be used in river and lake conservation efforts, according to the circular.

This is the third consecutive year for Shenzhen to have been praised for promoting industrial growth and upgrading and implementing technological transformations, sources from the Shenzhen Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau showed. Eight other cities including Changchun, Xiamen and Qingdao were also honored.

The cities will receive incentives from Central agencies in building new-type industrial demonstration bases, technological upgrading of industrial enterprises, priorities in assessment of manufacturing industry champions and other demonstrative projects, enterprises and platforms in 2021.

Statistics from the city's industry and information technology bureau showed that the industrial output vale of enterprises at or above designated scale (20 million yuan in annual operating revenue) reached 3.7 trillion yuan in 2020, up by 2 percent year on year. The city’s industrial scale took the leading place among major Chinese cities for two straight years. Industrial investments for the first time exceeded 100 billion yuan and weight of investments in technological transformations kept increasing.

The added value of the city’s advanced manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing took up 72.5 percent and 66.1 percent of the industry at or above designated sacle, respectively.

The city’s new-generation telecommunications industrial cluster has been chosen by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as the pilot for the country’s world-level advanced manufacturing.

In 2020, eight Shenzhen enterprises entered the list for the world’s top 500 enterprises and 21 enterprises entered the list for China’s top 100 electronic information enterprises.
