SHENZHEN’S political advisers shared ideas on promotion of high-quality development and pioneering in the construction of new development patterns at a panel discussion at the annual meeting of the city’s political advisory body that opened Thursday.

The discussion was held after the opening of the First Session of the Seventh Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which will last four days into Sunday. The 504 newly elected political advisers will bring their proposals for the city’s development at the annual meeting.

“To make breakthroughs, Shenzhen should set up technology development alliances that integrate industry, research, education, administration and capital in sectors like industrial Internet, 5G, electric chips, AI and biopharmacy while targeting core technologies and key spare parts,” said Chen Zhilie, chairman of Shenzhen Federation of Industry and Commerce.

Political adviser Luo Zheng suggested Shenzhen should, in an effort to build a Creative Capital of Global Fashion, organize a global fashion award competition on par with CFDA Fashion Awards in New York, which is dubbed the “Oscars of Fashion.”

“By organizing such an award, it will increase the global influence of Shenzhen as a Capital of Design while helping local brands expand overseas,” said Luo.

Lin Jie, the city’s top political adviser, delivered a report on the work of the Sixth Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC at the opening of the annual session Thursday morning.

Last year, the city’s political advisers made 24 COVID-19-related proposals and donated cash and material supplies worth a total of 443 million yuan (US$69 million).

“Political advisers fought in the front line in the war against COVID-19, working in medical treatment, scientific research and virus detection,” Lin said.

The Sixth Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC received a total of 3,879 proposals and handled 3,337.
