Man arrested for dropping bottles from high places
    2021-05-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN, identified as Chen Yu, has been sentenced to six months in jail by the Guangming District People’s Court for dropping things from buildings.

This was the first criminal case of dropping from high places in Guangming since the amendment to the criminal law that took effect March 1.

There were many times since January 2021 Chen dropped objects, such as empty beer bottles and trash, from his room in the district. On Jan. 14, Chen threw two beer bottles from his room, almost hitting pedestrians. After receiving a report from one of these pedestrians, identified as Wang Zhe, police found Chen in his apartment. Investigations revealed Chen had thrown beer bottles twice between Aug. 3 and Sept. 11 in 2020, when he lived in another apartment in Guangming.

Chen was prosecuted April 2, 2021 and was recently sentenced to six months in jail with a 2,000-yuan (US$310) fine.
