MORE than 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in Shenzhen by Wednesday, amid the country’s drive to scale up the COVID-19 vaccination rate.

Shenzhen had administered over 10.18 million doses to nearly 7.28 million residents as of 8 p.m. Wednesday, creating an inoculation rate of 53.5 percent, the city’s health commission said Thursday.

The city ranks first in Guangdong Province in the number of administered vaccine doses, said the commission.

Shenzhen has also completed the COVID-19 vaccination of high-risk groups, such as mainland cross-border truck drivers and shuttle bus drivers, workers dealing with imported cold-chain products, workers in quarantine hotels and front-line medics.

With hundreds of vaccination sites across the city, the inoculation capacity of Shenzhen has reached 420,000 doses per day, of which the inoculation capacity of temporary vaccination sites has accounted for 75 percent of the total, the commission said.

Shenzhen has been going to great lengths to encourage the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 while providing more convenient vaccination services.

Last month, the city pioneered the use of a mobile vaccination vehicle in Longhua District, the first in Guangdong. Futian and Longgang districts have also offered pickup and drop-off service to residents who intend to get the jab.

A 400-square-meter temporary vaccination site was opened April 2 in Luohu District. The site, the largest of its kind in the district, can offer upwards of 1,500 to 2,000 doses a day.

To further expand vaccination coverage, Shenzhen started administering COVID-19 vaccines to expats as well as Hong Kong and Macao residents living in Guangdong Province on April 13, and then did the same for Taiwan compatriots residing in Shenzhen on April 22. Eight COVID-19 vaccination sites are designated to serve these groups of people.

According to the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital,  as of Wednesday, the hospital had administered more than 1,100 COVID-19 vaccine doses to foreigners, 2,610 to Hong Kong and Macao residents, and 200 to Taiwan residents.

Another designated hospital, Shenzhen Shekou People’s Hospital, told Shenzhen Daily on Thursday that 2,290 foreigners, 1,533 Hong Kong and Macao residents, and 493 Taiwan compatriots had received the vaccine doses at the hospital as of Wednesday.

Shenzhen Samii Medical Center in Pingshan District said that as of Thursday it had administered doses to 286 foreigners, 448 Hong Kong and Macao residents, and 101 Taiwan residents.
