Hot pot, barbecue favored by SZers
    2021-06-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HOT POT, fast food and Guangdong cuisine or Cantonese cuisine remain the three most popular types of foods ordered by Shenzhen citizens using online food delivery platforms in 2020, while barbecue replaced Sichuan cuisine to be No. 5, according to a report released by online food delivery platform Meituan.

The report also includes the top 10 recommended dishes in Shenzhen, three of which are related to hot pot, specifically sticky rice with brown sugar, beef sirloin in hot pot, and original-flavor coconut chicken hot pot.

Four dishes are linked with barbecue, specifically grilled eggplant, roast chicken cartilage, grilled leek and mutton kebabs.

In terms of the number of food stores, fast food stores, beverage shops and fresh fruit stores stay in the top three, with the number of bakeries reducing since last year.

On the contrary, barbecues have seen a surge of orders after they were upgraded to cater to the youth in Shenzhen, who like having a comfortable environment to relax.

In terms of the identity of food consumers, women still dominated the market, with the majority of consumers aging from 25 to 35 years old.

However, the highest increase of consumption, 3.4 percent, happened among youth aged 20 and 25 years old. (Hu Leyi)
