Three exhibitions at Great Art Space
    2021-06-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

‘Stand and Stare’

Artists Liang Xinghao and Liang Tingwei depict the present from perspectives of “stand inside” and “stare outside,” respectively. Liang Xinghao poses questions on rumors and truth during the Internet era since some news is based on online sources. In Liang Tingwei’s view, what monkeys are to humans is just like what modern humans are to future humans. On the one hand, “stare outside” is the interaction between his works and viewers; on the other hand, it is an objective outlook on the future world. Through the clever recreation of medieval-style paintings, Liang Tingwei metaphorizes the present and implies the optimistic expectation for renaissance.

Dates: Until July 4

‘Early Summer’

The “Early Summer” exhibition features 30 oil paintings and ceramic artworks by three Shenzhen artists, Li Yong, Ying Maike and Zhang Huiling.

Li is good at using various materials to paint abstract objects and lines, presenting the connection and conflict between humans and the environment and sorting out the uncertainties in the real life.

His paintings are poetic and the subjects of his works are sometimes still objects or distant landscapes, from which viewers can feel a unique atmosphere like the lightness and elegance after a meditation.

Ying has read many books on ancient Chinese art and literature since he was a child. Classical artistic styles and the humanistic spirit in Chinese art have set the foundation for his modern abstract paintings. He also boldly experimented with creative tools for independent expression in his paintings. Inspiration in his creation is inextricably linked to society, history, nature, reality and emotions.

Zhang regards pottery creation as a pure and perfect journey in her life. The clay and its colors make her tempted to explore in depth, and she is eager to dig out the unusual artistic expression of clay, which can make it bloom with poetic luster. The holes in her pottery works may be metaphorical symbols of breathing in life.

Dates: Until June 30

‘The Corner in Life’

This exhibition features the works of five artists: Chayujun, Big Brother, Karmen Wong, Ou Yimeng and Yuan Linhong. The theme of the exhibition takes the image of “the corner” to symbolize the trivial moments or the ignored scenes in life. Through their works, the artists attempt to guide viewers to reassess those moments from a different perspective.

Chayujun captures the subtleties of a moment before we could react to them. Thus, everyone in the scene is the protagonist of her works. Wong’s works encompass “self” in various contexts and painting for her is like a visual interpretation of literary language, intuitive and poetic.

Ou gains inspiration from observation and reflections on life and travel. Her works are heart-lightening and rich with a flow of temperature, where various colors and landscape elements are communicated through mixed media. Behind Yuan’s banter and emotional expression in her works, viewers would be surprised by her unique manipulation of visual effect.
