Science and fun as one

Mars has been a hot topic recently since China’s Zhurong rover drove on the surface of Mars last month, making China the second country after the United States to land and operate a rover on the red planet.

Humans across the world have for years been turning their eyes on the sky and exploring the possibilities of what life may look like on Mars. If you and your children are interested in learning more about the red planet, you don’t want to miss this chance to experience the excitement.

“Challenge Mars: China Manned Space Science and Technology Achievement Exhibition” at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning displays space knowledge and the achievements of China in the space industry, as well as offering interactive experiences for visitors.

Covering an area of 2,000 square meters, the exhibition is divided into seven parts. At the entrance, visitors can get a map of the exhibition hall and get it stamped after they finish visiting each part. With the stamps, they can claim gifts at the end of the “space journey.”

The immersive first part lets visitor roam in the “Milky Way” and get basic knowledge of the universe. There are multiple zones simulating the Mars exploration and astronaut training. Visitors can wear a simulated spacesuit and sit on the “Mars Base” to experience the Martian storm and the tense Martian life. They can also join the “Tiangong Special Training Department” to receive space environment adaptability training and more astronaut training programs.

Authentic products and models of spacecraft, lunar exploration vehicles, space station and the Long March series rocket family are on display at the “Space Museum” part. Visitors will also see valuable spacesuits and a giant return capsule parachute.

Fun activities at the exhibition include AR games exploring the space, playing with Lego bricks, forming space models and painting. Guided tours are offered from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day.
