Woman detained for spreading COVID rumors
    2021-06-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 36-YEAR-OLD female, surnamed Huang, was detained for two days by Futian police for disturbing public order and spreading rumors fabricating a confirmed COVID-19 case in Huaqiangbei in Futian District, according to a release by Futian police Saturday.

At 11 p.m. Thursday, Huang saw a video clip regarding Shenzhen citizens taking nucleic acid tests. She posted the short video online with fabricated texts added, saying that a confirmed case caused an overnight massive screening in Huaqiangbei.

Futian police identified the video as false after investigation.

On Friday afternoon, Huang was held for questioning. She admitted to charges of manufacturing and spreading a rumor.

Police stated that they would enforce laws and regulations and crack down rumors regarding the pandemic. They also urged the public to maintain order on the Internet and cooperate with the city’s pandemic prevention and control efforts.
