City to build 2m new apartments by 2035
    2021-06-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN has adjusted its housing plan, aiming to build 2 million new apartments of various types by 2035, as opposed to its previous goal of 1.7 million, according to the city’s draft plan on land space (2020-2035).

The draft outline was made public by the Shenzhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau on Friday.

Under the draft plan, the proportion of public housing should be no less than 60 percent of the total number of newly built housing units.

The plan specifies that Shenzhen will allocate more land for livelihood projects relating to housing, education, health care and transport. A Metro network covering over 1,000 kilometers will be formed in Shenzhen, as part of the city’s efforts to build itself into a transport hub.

Urban renewal projects and redevelopment of under-utilized land lots are urged to enhance land use efficiency, according to the plan.

The plan also attaches great importance to the concept of green development to comprehensively strengthen the overall conservation and utilization of the environment of the whole area, such as oceans, water systems, forests, arable land and wetlands, and innovate the mode of natural resources conservation and utilization in highly urbanized areas.

At the same time, the plan focuses more on the synergetic development from a global perspective. It specifically proposes to jointly build a world-class Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, accelerate the construction of a metropolis circle with Shenzhen at the center and build the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone with high standards.

Moreover, Shenzhen will build one comprehensive innovation core zone, seven innovation zones including Guangming Science City and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Zone for Technology and Innovation, and 12 urban function centers to provide public services related to education, commerce and culture in different regions.

Technologies such as big data and 5G are also urged to be fully utilized to improve the modernization of the city’s governance level, according to the plan.

By 2035, Shenzhen will provide 2.28 million admissions for compulsory education, have 400,000 million college students and 150,000 beds in medical institutions.
