CDC expert interprets side effects of COVID vaccines
    2021-06-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SOME citizens might experience some mild-to-moderate side effects after receiving their COVID-19 vaccines. A health expert suggests that citizens take a rest and make further observations on their body’s reactions if those are mild, and seek timely medical treatment if the reactions get relatively severe, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Huang Fang, a health expert with the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said that feeling sleepy after a COVID-19 vaccine is possibly an indication that our immune system is working, and that the symptom will last for one or two days.

According to Huang, adverse reactions to the vaccine refer to the reactions caused by the characteristics of the vaccine itself, related to the individual differences of the recipients and unrelated to the purpose of vaccination, or some unexpected reactions such as fever, localized swelling, muscle pain and other symptoms.

The most common side effects after COVID-19 vaccinations are fever and redness, swelling or pain where the shot was given, which last no longer than a few days without special treatment.

If the symptoms are severe or the severity cannot be judged by oneself, citizens should seek medical treatment in a timely manner, said Huang.

Huang reminded that vaccine recipients should truthfully tell the doctors about their health conditions before the inoculation of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines and should stay at the vaccination site for 30 minutes for observation after the vaccination.

In another development, some citizens have reported that they could not inquire about their latest nucleic acid test results a few days after they conducted the free tests in their communities.

The reporter with the Daily visited some temporary testing sites and learned that the upload time of test results has been delayed due to a large amount of recently collected nucleic acid samples.

It is suggested that citizens who urgently need their latest nucleic acid results contact the testing centers to obtain paper and electronic test results or go to a hospital to have a nucleic acid test at their own expense.
