A PHOTO exhibition showing about 100 winning pictures of the Second Expats Eye Shenzhen Photo Contest has been a hit in Egypt. A follow-up event of the competition, the one-day display Tuesday at a hotel in Cairo attracted over 200 Egyptian visitors.

Themed “Shenzhen is the home where our hearts settle,” the exhibition was organized by the Liaison Office in Egypt under the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen). The office also cooperated with the Department of Higher Education Affairs under the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, which hosted the Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition on the same day.

The Egyptian liaison office had prepared the exhibition since the beginning of June. “We tried our best to attract more local people,” said office representative Zhang Nie.

Many Egyptian university students were drawn to the photo selections which show Shenzhen’s magnificent landmarks, booming development and the harmonious relationship between nature and the city’s people.

The exhibition received mostly positive feedback from visitors. “They (students) didn’t know much about China previously. It is the first time for them to realize that Shenzhen is a modern city,” Zhang said.

Zhang said the event is meaningful. “First, the photo exhibition has increased Egyptian people’s understanding of Shenzhen,” Zhang said. “Second, both the exhibited photos and the Chinese contest present the interaction between China and Egypt as 2021 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.”
