THE calendar of events that eight Shenzhen athletes will compete in at the Tokyo Olympics has been unveiled by Shenzhen sports authorities.

They will debut two days into the Games, which will open Friday, and will vie for medals in race walking, gymnastics, swimming, rock climbing, hockey and pole vault.

Among them, first-timer Ou Yushan will make her first appearance in the women’s gymnastics individual event qualifiers Sunday and play in women’s gymnastics team final Tuesday.

If she passes the qualifiers, she will secure a ticket to the finals of the floor exercise event Aug. 2 and balanced beam Aug. 3.

Tuesday will also see the first performance by Liang Meiyu, a member of China women’s hockey team, when the team takes on Olympic host Japan.

On the night of the same day, Tang Muhan will compete at the women’s 400-meter freestyle swimming qualifier, while her teammate Yu Liyan will make her debut at the women’s 200-meter butterfly stroke event July 27.

Huang Bokai will play his first pole vault match July 31 to fight for a spot in the final to be held Aug. 3.

Competition will start Aug. 6 for Liu Hong, the world record holder of the Olympic 20-kilometer distance and the 2016 Olympic 20-kilometer race walking gold medalist.

Wang Qianyi, a Chinese synchronized swimmer who won China’s first ever gold and silver medals at the 2017 World Aquatics World Championships, will start to compete Aug. 6.

Song Yiling, who broke the women’s speed climbing world record in 2019, will contend in the Aug. 4 qualifier for a spot in the final to be held Aug. 6.
