Firms, organizations donate to aid flood relief
    2021-07-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A NUMBER of Shenzhen enterprises and social organizations have donated money and supplies to help Henan Province tide over unprecedented severe floods, which had turned local streets into rapidly flowing rivers and inundated Metro stations and cars, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The Shenzhen Charity Federation on Wednesday called on all sectors of society to help the flood relief in Henan.

Tencent Foundation, for instance, urgently announced an initial donation of 100 million yuan (US$15.46 million) on Wednesday. In partnership with front-line relief agencies and charity organizations, the foundation made the donation in a bid to safeguard local people’s personal safety and purchase emergency relief goods.

Meanwhile, Chinese Internet giant Tencent is urgently mobilizing its product and technology resources to help the local governments and all sectors of society in disaster relief.

The Tencent public welfare platform has also set up a special section for flood relief in Henan on their home page, offering a channel for donations from netizens across the country.

Vanke Foundation donated 50 million yuan to the Red Cross Society of Henan to support disaster relief in the flood-stricken province. Donations are mainly used for improving safety of local people, purchase of emergency relief goods and post-disaster reconstruction.

The Logan Charitable Foundation donated 10 million yuan through the Shenzhen Charity Federation to support disaster relief operations in the province.

Foxconn Industrial Internet Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of electronics manufacturer Foxconn, disclosed Wednesday that it will represent its parent company to donate 100 million yuan for disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction in Henan.

The BYD Charity Foundation on Wednesday also donated 20 million yuan to the Zhengzhou Charity Federation for emergency relief and post-disaster recovery.

Other Shenzhen companies, including Lexin, HEYTEA and iDreamSky, have donated 10 million yuan, 5 million yuan and 1 million yuan, respectively, to provide support for flood relief in Henan Province.

In face of a disaster, Shenzhen social organizations promptly offered support to the flood-stricken areas in Henan. The Shenzhen Rescue Volunteers Federation has sent a 10-member team to Henan. The team took a flight to Zhengzhou, capital of the province, Thursday.

Eight members of the Shenzhen Blue Sky Rescue Team also carried professional life-saving equipment and set off to Zhengzhou on Wednesday. After arriving in Zhengzhou, the members will be subject to unified deployment according to local needs.
