Shi becomes double Olympic gold medalist with world record lift
    2021-07-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHI ZHIYONG of China broke his own world record to win gold in the men’s 73kg weightlifting event at the Tokyo Olympic Games yesterday.

This was the 12th gold medal of the Chinese delegation in this Olympic Games.

Shi achieved an Olympic record in the snatch with a lift of 166kg before pulling out another Olympic record in the clean and jerk (198kg) for a total lift of 364kg — one kilogram more than his previous world record.

The three-time world champion also won gold at Rio 2016 in the 69kg event.

The silver medal went to Venezuela’s Julio Ruben Mayora Pernia and bronze to Rahmat Erwin Abdullah of Indonesia.(SD-Agencies)
