LOCATED in Guiang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Polygroup Plastic Products Co. is a company specializing in the production and sales of Christmas trees, Christmas tree lights and plastic swimming pool toys. Invested and built by Hong Kong Polygroup, the world’s largest manufacturer of Christmas trees and Christmas tree lights, Polygroup Plastic Products is hailed as an example of Guigang’s cooperation with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The company, with all its products being exported to European and North American countries, has seen its order intake increase at an annual rate of 20 percent over the past two years despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“One of the Christmas tree models we sell is priced at over US$600 and has a market share of nearly 10 percent, while the prices of regular ones range from US$50 to US$100, with a market share of about 60 percent,” said Jiang Feng,  general manager of the company.

The company now has a factory in Wulin Township, Pingnan County, with more than 4,000 employees, and is planning to build another one in Da’an Township. After the whole project is completed and put into operation, the annual production capacity will reach 28,000 tons of Christmas trees and 5,000 tons of plastic toys, with an expected annual output of 1 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion).

“At the very beginning, we visited several places and found that Pingnan County has a large population as well as a perfect location by the side of the West River,” said Jiang.

“We’d like to take advantage of the population and water transport of Pingnan. For one thing, it is convenient for recruiting workers. Our original intention of setting up the factory here is to help the villagers to become employed and shake off poverty.”

“For the other, we can use the waterway to transport finished products to ports in Guangdong before exporting them overseas.” Currently, the company transports 60 percent of its products by water. “We hope that 100 percent of the products will be shipped by water in the future,” he added.

Employees from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan as well as foreign countries take up 30 percent of the company’s management roles, according to Jiang. He hopes the company will continue to thrive so as to help attract more enterprises to invest in Guigang to enhance the city’s cooperation with the GBA.
