Jung Hee Kim Global Economic News SOUTH KOREA’S government imposed a 10 million won (US$87,440) fine on Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor Co.’s South Korean branch Nissan Korea Co. for manipulating certificate documents including vehicle emissions testing results. The Supreme Court said it upheld the lower court’s ruling and issued the fine to Nissan Korea for violating the Motor Vehicle Management Act. Nissan Korea and its executives and employees were put on trial for obtaining certifications of imported vehicles by manipulating vehicle emissions testing results and fuel efficiency test reports from 2012 to 2015. According to an investigation, Nissan Korea and its executives and employees obtained certificates by manipulating documents such as submitting the on-Board Diagnostics (OBD) test report of other vehicles during the process of obtaining certification for imported cars including Infiniti Q50 and Qashqai models. |
