TEN finalist teams of the digital traffic solution and digital urban development solution groups of the 2021 Shared Open Data Innovation Contest (SODiC) will present their data-based solutions to pressing issues in these areas during the finals to be held in Longhua District on Saturday, according to a press conference Thursday.

Due to COVID-19 prevention and control considerations, only Shenzhen-based judges will be invited to the on-site venue. The finalist teams and judges based in other cities will join the finals via online conference.

This year’s SODiC is divided into two categories — professional and amateur, with the former further divided into two sub-categories highlighting creativity and algorithm, respectively. As one of the co-organizers of this year’s SODiC, Longhua District is hosting amateur category events as well as the digital traffic solution group and the digital urban development group under the creativity sub-category.

According to statistics revealed at the press conference, 956 teams signed up for the creativity sub-category and 3,098 teams signed up for the algorithm sub-category. With 210 and 131 participating teams respectively, the digital traffic solution group and the digital urban development solution group took up the top two spots among all the eight groups under the creativity sub-category.

The finalist teams come from universities, research institutions, internet firms and even venture capital firms.

Longhua is an early starter in data integration and application. Since its establishment in 2017, the district has made the building of “smart Longhua” a priority of its development. After four years of efforts by the Longhua District Government and the Longhua District Government Service Data Management Bureau, a system integrating platforms, data, government operation, planning and building has been built. The big data platform launched by the district has aggregated over 5.3 billion units of data from around 70 municipal and district-level government service systems.

Longhua has also been an active explorer in future city scenarios. Smart traffic, one of the many “smart Longhua” projects, is a good example. By integrating data from Shenzhen Municipal Traffic Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau, ride-hailing service providers and the like, the project can serve 12 functions including analyzing causes of accidents, rules of traffic conditions and the real-time monitoring of key cars. Longhua thus leads other districts in terms of traffic management.

In another development, the finals for the amateur category will be held in Longhua on Aug. 17.
