Deliveryman fails to wear helmet properly, injured
    2021-08-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A FOOD deliveryman riding an e-bike suffered injuries after a car collision in Bao’an District at 3:04 a.m. Sunday. The e-bike rider was reported to have improperly worn his helmet and ridden against traffic on the nonmotor vehicle lane, according to Shenzhen Evening News.

The accident happened when a car was driving from south to north along Jian’an No. 1 Road while the deliveryman was riding an e-bike from north to south, which caused both to collide and resulted in the deliveryman falling off his e-bike and getting injured.

The deliveryman was taken to the hospital by an ambulance and is still in intensive care unit for treatment, according to the News report.

From surveillance camera footage, the traffic police found that although the deliveryman was wearing a helmet, it was compromised by the loose chin strap. The deliveryman also rode against the traffic on a nonmotor vehicle lane.

In another development, Shenzhen scored 89.08 points on the urban road civility index in July, a decline of 0.27 points compared with May and an increase of 1.36 points over the same period last year, statistics from the Shenzhen survey team of the National Bureau of Statistics showed.

Compared with May, the three sub-indexes including citizen satisfaction, traffic facilities and sidewalk accessibility increased by varying degrees last month, while the sub-index of law-abiding rate saw a one-point decline.

The survey results also showed that the helmet wearing rate of e-bike riders in Shenzhen was only 68.78 percent in July.

Dapeng New Area scored the highest in the road civility index with 97.69 points, followed by Guangming District with 90.92 points. Longgang and Longhua districts and Dapeng have all seen their road civility indexes go up in July.
