A SHENZHEN team consisting of 19 contestants returned to the city Thursday with three gold and two bronze medals in a provincial vocational skills competition.

A celebratory ceremony organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau was held Thursday to congratulate the winners.

The Guangdong Provincial Vocational Skills Competition and the Rural Revitalization Vocational Skills Contest, held in Zhanjiang City from Monday to Wednesday, have attracted professionals from all walks of life as well as teachers and students from vocational colleges. Shenzhen candidates’ achievements have been outstanding this year.

Two of the first-prize winners from Shenzhen are veterans in the fields of wall building and hairdressing, and one is a college student majoring in electronics at Shenzhen Pengcheng Technical College. One of the two bronze medal winners is an enterprise representative having expertise in Western baking and the other is an e-commerce business teacher from Shenzhen Pengcheng Technical College.

The winners’ excellent performances have much to do with rich experiences in their field, and their persistence and diligence. Two of the three gold medalists have decades worth of working experiences.

“Winning a gold medal is not easy,” Wu Linhua, a veteran hairdresser who has worked in Sunnow for 11 years, told Shenzhen Daily. “I started from being a senior hairdresser, and now I am the manager of a branch store, which has taught me that better vocational skills can help me live a better life in Shenzhen.”

Lin Yanli, the only female winner in the contest, said that she has spent eight years learning, practicing and teaching e-commerce business. “As a teacher from Pengcheng Technical College, I hope my accomplishment will stimulate students’ passion for improving their vocational skills,” she said.

The city’s three gold medalists will take part in the National Vocational Skills Competition in Xinjiang in early October.
