THE first China AI Innovation and Application Competition was launched Friday, with top prize of 1 million yuan (US$154,383), according to the organizers.

The contest aims to further improve the AI core industry chain’s competitiveness and push forward AI applications in urban construction, manufacturing, robotics, remote sensing and energy.

The contest is developed into two stages, the thematic competitions around eight events and the final competition. The thematic competitions will be held between August and October and the finals will be held in November.

At the launch ceremony Friday, Zhu Xiumei, deputy department chief of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the ministry has unveiled a three-year action plan for the development of the AI industry and the AI innovation and application contest will be helpful for making breakthroughs in AI basic and applied technologies, expediting layout of the AI industry’s ecology and promoting AI applications in key industries.

Yu Xiquan, head of the city’s industry and information technology bureau, said the contest is a platform for AI enterprises, teams and talents to cooperate and share innovation achievements, to jointly build industrial ecology and an intelligent world.
