Han Ximin ximhan@126.com AN e-bike driver was recently killed while going against the red light at a pedestrian crossing, according to a notice released by traffic police Sunday. The e-bike driver, surnamed Liu, was running against the red light when he was hit by a car driven by a person identified as Wang on Huanguan Road South during the evening rush hour July 30. Liu lost balance and his e-bike then collided with a car driven by another person surnamed Ye on the lane next to Wang’s. Liu was injured and later died at the hospital. A police investigation showed Liu rode his e-bike against the red light while Wang and Ye didn’t slow down their vehicles when approaching the pedestrian crossing. The case is still under investigation. Police said in a release yesterday that they had recorded a total of 75,481 e-bike violations by Sunday since the new e-bike management regulation took effect Aug. 1. Among the violations, 22,528 offenders were found failing to wear helmets and 12,165 were riding on motorist lanes, the release said. Since Aug. 1, police have issued 15,044 tickets including 14,179 warnings and 744 fines on couriers and delivery people. |
