Residents urged to follow new mask guidance
    2021-08-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A DISEASE control and prevention expert has reminded residents to keep proper distance and wear masks in crowded areas to reduce infection risks.

The reminder came days after the public’s new mask guidelines were released by the National Health Commission on Monday.

During an interview with Shenzhen Evening News, Zhu Zili, an expert with the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said given the current circumstances, Shenzhen residents should continue wearing masks, keep social distancing and keep their areas well-ventilated.

“For the general public, this new edition [of guidelines] requires that people should wear masks in crowded open spaces, theaters and parks, in addition to indoor areas,” said Zhu, adding residents should be aware of the importance of wearing masks.

The new guidelines also suggest the public to keep some higher-level masks at home and wear them when going to hospitals and when their family members show symptoms of cough, sneezing and fever.

In addition, members of key groups who are at high risk of COVID-19 infection or exposure, such as health, public service and border control workers, must wear masks. Those working in frozen goods logistics chain should wear masks during the whole work process.

Medical workers and those who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients and potential contaminants like cleaners, caretakers, plumbers and lab employees should wear protective masks preventing particulate matters.

Those who work in public places like police and couriers should wear medical masks. While on duty, they should wear surgical masks or other higher-level masks, according to the guidelines.
