Man saved by firefighters and 20 citizens after failed suicide attempt
    2021-08-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN who wanted to take his own life by jumping off a footbridge on Honggang Road in Luohu District, was saved by firefighters and 20-strong citizens, DT News reported.

The man was reported to have fallen off the top of a moving bus after the jump and was caught under the bus. With the efforts of firefighters and more than 20 citizens, the bus was lifted and the man was rescued. The man suffered a few fractures and abrasions and is currently in the hospital for treatment.

According to a witness surnamed Zhang, he saw a man climb over the fence of the footbridge after 8 p.m. that night. The man jumped off the footbridge and fell on the top of a passing bus.

Bus driver Liu Yaohua recalled that he heard a sudden loud noise from the roof and then saw a figure rolling down the front window. He hurried off to check what had happened and found that a man got stuck in the front end of the bus.

Liu and some citizens quickly formed a temporary 20-strong “rescue team” and tried to lift the bus to rescue the man. Firefighters soon arrived and propped up the bus with the appropriate tools, after which the injured man was sent to the hospital.

The police are now conducting further investigations into the reasons for the man’s suicide attempt.  (Zhang Yu)
