Schools conduct safety mock drills ahead of new semester
    2021-08-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SCHOOLS across the city have conducted mock drills covering various circumstances before the start of the fall term to improve campus safety, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

In a recent mock drill at the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) in Longgang District, students were required to present health codes and keep a one-meter distance while queuing to enter the campus.

When a student showed a temperature of over 37.3 degrees Celsius, SZIIT instantly guided the student to go to a quarantine site, recorded the information and reported the case to the school clinic.

The student was then transferred to the designated hospital after being considered as a suspected COVID-19 patient. A staffer was arranged to follow up the student’s situation and the school was disinfected according to guidelines.

At the same time, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, required students to present a green health code, travel history, admission letter and ID before entering the campus, according to the report.

Pingshan Experimental School instructed students to check body temperature thrice, specifically when leaving home, entering the school’s gate and going inside a classroom.

During the school’s mock drill, a student raised his hand to the teacher to indicate that he was not feeling well. The teacher immediately checked the student’s body temperature. Upon finding the student’s body temperature was slightly elevated, the teacher informed all the students to put their masks on and stay seated. Afterward, the teacher contacted the school clinic.

The school clinic staff arrived in the classroom and took the student to the temporary quarantine site, rechecked the student’s body temperature and launched emergency plans.

Shenzhen No. 2 Experimental School also drafted a management flowchart and conducted a mock drill before the start of the new term.

Li Hongquan, head of the school’s security office, said that safety is a priority as schools are densely populated public areas, adding that the mock drill is not only a requirement but also a promise to all faculty and students. (Wang Jingli)
