SZ issues first warning ticket for recharging e-bike indoors
    2021-09-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ON Sunday, Nanshan police issued a warning ticket against an electric bike owner who illegally recharged his e-bike indoors, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

A warning is an administrative punitive measure in the form of an official censure of a natural person or a legal entity.

This is the first administrative punishment the city authority has taken since the e-bike management regulations took effect Aug. 1. The latest regulations strictly ban recharging e-bikes indoors in places such as residences, offices, public aisles inside buildings, staircase exits and emergency exits. Recharging in these areas poses a serious safety hazard which is likely to cause great damage to life and property.

During an inspection on Saturday, police at Yuehai police station in Nanshan spotted an e-bike being recharged inside a room in Nanyou B Zone. Police identified the e-bike owner as a 35-year-old male surnamed Yang. Nanshan police administered punishment against Yang the next day. Yang expressed his regret for the violation and vowed to firmly comply with the laws.

Police warned that they will take further administrative punitive measures against e-bike regulation transgressions.

All large lithium batteries are a potential fire risk and should be charged in a safe place. Shenzhen and other cities have reported cases of e-bikes bursting into flames or exploding while being recharged.  (Xia Yuanjie)
