Testing area for ICVs

CANGZHOU City of Hebei Province has expanded testing of intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) on new public routes, making it one of the largest road networks nationwide for testing autonomous vehicles.

Cangzhou has newly earmarked roads with a length of 407.3 km for ICV testing, bringing the total length to 636.9 km, said the municipal public security bureau. The ICV road testing will involve more real-world traffic scenarios, such as transportation hubs, business zones, residential communities, schools, and parks. In recent years, Cangzhou has speeded up its efforts to develop the ICV industry.

Large internet firms

THE country’s large internet companies saw their revenue and profits expand at a faster pace in the first seven months of this year, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed.

Revenue of these companies surged 26.3 percent year on year to reach 886.9 billion yuan (US$137.34 billion) during the period, MIIT data showed. The growth rate was 0.7 percentage points higher than that in the first six months. Meanwhile, profits went up 28 percent from a year earlier to 84.29 billion yuan, with the growth rate expanding 0.6 percentage points from that in Jan.-June.

Lab-grown pork

CELLX, a startup that was founded last year, has unveiled a selection of lab-grown pork dishes and said it was aiming to produce the more environmentally friendly meat at competitive prices for the world’s top meat-eating nation by 2025.

Investors have been invited to taste one of the prototypes produced in its Shanghai lab from cells harvested from China’s native black pig. In China, “there are lots of people wanting to try it,” CellX founder Yang Ziliang said. The firm aims to make cultivated meat cost competitive with animal meat by 2025.
